3 Ways to Get Angel Investors Excited about your Business

I like presentations from Entrepreneurs that get me excited about their business and what it can or will do!  So, what can you do to captivate your Angel Investor audience?

 

  • Clearly define and articulate your business – what market need does it satisfy or problem does it solve, and how extensive is the need or problem?  How do you solve it and how is your approach unique & compelling & protected from others, what substantial & measurable value does it offer, and to whom?  Help your audience experience the need for your business by helping them personally identify with the problem and your solution: “How many people here have ever experienced..(insert the problem here)? What if I could make it go away by (insert your business solution here).”….   If it’s a business sector less familiar to your audience, make sure that you take a few minutes to orient them with the market environment you play in, then explain how your business operates within that marketplace. The more that investors identify with your Company’s vision, your value proposition and the marketplace you play in, the greater the likelihood you’ll catch their interest.
  • Know your business and market inside & out; show your knowledge, confidence and excitement – In one of the best Early-Start presentations I’ve ever seen, the presenter almost seemed to be ‘in awe’ of his business, what it could do, and its potential!  He started with a brief but thorough overview of the marketplace and trends; described the business, its structure, and its unique value proposition and business model; explained the competitive landscape and how they would protect themselves; briefly outlined their strategy for quick market penetration and growth (including realistic projections); and laid out a precise exit strategy including 3 specifically-targeted suitors, how they would position themselves to be an attractive acquisition for each, and how the business would trigger the buyout & when!  Well thought out, confident, and excited about seeing it all come true!  Your ability to competently handle any and all questions with ease tells a lot, and be excited about your business!
  • Have a credible business plan and go-to-market strategy –  A credible Business Plan translates your company’s vision, business concept and strategy into working reality.  It becomes the game plan for the business, and captures how the business intends to orchestrate and utilize all its key components to ensure a viable, successful and ongoing business entity.  The Business Plan forces the pre-thinking – on paper- of all aspects of the business including integration of various component strategies, external influences, and business assumptions & sensitivities, as well as their resulting impact on project financials.  Your go-to-market strategy is an integral part of your Business Plan and your Company’s ‘launch’ into commercialization,  the ‘real world’, and hopefully cashflow!
